In 1941, Lizzie Thayer, a young secretary met an equally young Thad Jones in the elevator of the FBI Building in Washington, D.C. where both worked. A year later she followed him to his hometown of New Orleans where they wed. From there, she followed him to Tullahoma, Tennessee where Thad was stationed for basic training, and, then, for two years her homemade cookies and daily letters followed him across Europe. After the war, they settled in New Orleans and in 1967, she followed him to Shreveport. On _______________, Lizzie followed him one last time to their heavenly home where he has been waiting for her since his death in 1995 along with their son, Christopher, who died as an infant and her parents, Walter and Irene Kennedy Thayer.
Left behind to remember Lizzie are children, Sandy (Rene) Brown, Jeff Jones, and Patti (Jeff) Rogers of Shreveport; Richard (Eileen) and Scott Jones of Nashville; and Keith (Susan) Jones of Covington, Louisiana. Lizzie raised her six children in a three-bedroom home with the organizational and budgetary skills of a successful CEO. Each has their own special memories of her, but all recall she was a talented artist who never hesitated to use those skills to enhance their school projects. Likewise, they will remember her baking skills, especially her renowned sour cream pound cake and ‘orange blossoms.’ She was also a savvy poker player, who never failed to fleece her own family in their friendly games, and a magician when it came to winning at the slots. She will also be affectionately remembered by her thirteen grandchildren and ______great-grandchildren. 
Lizzie was born in Washington, D.C. on February 10, 1921 and spent her formative years in Massachusetts, graduating from Watertown High in 1937. She fondly recalled the summers she was brought along to Cape Cod by families who treasured her babysitting skills. After high school, she worked as a secretary at John Hancock Insurance before returning to D.C. to work for the FBI.
